A large dark dog positioned across a road, gate, bridge or doorway, not attacking and not leaving.
This entry is marked insufficiently verified, and this page is not going to write around that. The accounts vary widely in size, in whether the eyes are luminous, and in whether the animal reads as threatening or protective. Black dog folklore is also extremely widespread in Britain and Ireland, which makes independent reporting almost impossible to establish.
